Storm history
Why South Jersey Roofs Fail So Suddenly
South Jersey gets the full mix: Atlantic nor’easters, summer squall lines out of Pennsylvania, and thousands of tall pines and oaks standing over houses.
- 2012
The June derecho
A fast moving wall of thunderstorms crossed South Jersey on June 29, 2012, snapping trees and stripping shingles from Camden County to the shore in under an hour.
- 2012
Sandy
The October 2012 storm drove wind and water across the Atlantic and Cape May coast and damaged thousands of shore homes.
- 2021
The Mullica Hill tornado
The remnants of Ida spun up a strong tornado through Harrison Township in Gloucester County on September 1, 2021, tearing roofs off homes and farm buildings.
- Every year
Pine Barrens tree fall
Shallow rooted pitch pines and oaks in Burlington, Atlantic and Ocean counties come down in saturated soil and high wind.
Town by town
Roof Emergencies We See in South Jersey Neighborhoods
The housing stock changes every few miles here, and so do the weak points on the roof.
Camden County
Cherry Hill, Voorhees and Haddonfield have many 1950s to 1970s split levels and colonials with older flashing at chimneys and dormers, plus aging three tab shingles.
Burlington County
Willingboro’s original Levitt homes, Mount Laurel and Moorestown developments and Medford lake homes surrounded by tall trees.
Gloucester County
Washington Township, Glassboro, Deptford and Mullica Hill, where newer subdivisions sit beside open farmland that gives wind a long run at the roofline.
Atlantic and Cape May
Salt air rusts nails and flashing on homes in Egg Harbor, Somers Point, Ocean City and Wildwood, and Cape May’s Victorian houses need careful work on steep, detailed roofs.
Cumberland and Salem
Older farmhouses and outbuildings around Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton and Pennsville, often with layered roofs over original board decking.

- Hail bruising and cracked vents
- Flat roof seams on additions, porches and shore duplexes

What South Jersey Homeowners Pay for Emergency Repairs
Most South Jersey emergency visits end with a tarp or a small repair in the few hundred to low thousands range, and storm damage is commonly part of a homeowners claim. Prices change with roof height, pitch, tree removal and whether the call comes in during the storm. The full table is on our emergency roof repair NJ page.
Shore deductibles
Many Atlantic and Cape May homeowners have a hurricane or wind deductible set as a percentage of coverage. Check your declarations page before you file.
Tree on the roof
Removal from the roof and the repair are commonly covered when the tree damaged the house; cleanup of a tree that only fell in the yard often is not.
Keep receipts
Emergency tarping receipts and photos support the mitigation part of your claim.
Written contract
New Jersey requires a written contract for home improvement work of $500 or more, and gives you three days to cancel it.
Between the storm and the repair
Keeping a South Jersey House Dry Until the Permanent Fix
The days after a storm are when a small opening turns into a soaked ceiling, so a few checks make a real difference.
- Look in the attic with a flashlight after each rain and note any new drips on the decking
- Clear pine needles and leaves from valleys and gutters so water does not back up under shingles
- Keep the tarp edges tight; call us if one starts flapping in the wind
- Run a dehumidifier in rooms where ceilings got wet to slow mold
- Keep every photo and receipt in one folder for the adjuster

South Jersey questions
Emergency Roof Repair South Jersey FAQ
Do you really come to South Jersey from Edison?
Yes. We take emergency calls across all seven South Jersey counties. Our target is about 2 hours, and for the far southern shore we give you an honest time before you commit.
Can you remove a tree from my roof?
Yes. We take the tree or limbs off the roof, cover the openings and check the rafters. Large trunks lying across the yard may need a tree service as well.
Do you work on shore homes and duplexes?
Yes, including low slope sections and flat roofs common on Ocean City and Wildwood duplexes, and corroded flashing near the water.
What should I do if the leak is near a light fixture?
Turn off that circuit if you can reach a dry panel safely, keep everyone away from the fixture and call us. Do not touch wet wiring.
How long will a tarp hold until the repair?
A tarp fastened through battens over the ridge normally lasts several weeks or longer, which gives time for the claim and the permanent work.
Do I need a permit for the repair?
Shingle repair or replacement on a detached house is ordinary maintenance in New Jersey and normally needs no permit; structural framing repairs do.
Will you meet my insurance adjuster at the house?
Gladly. We provide photos, measurements and a written scope, and walk the damage with your adjuster on site.
Do you handle hail damage in South Jersey?
Yes. Hail bruises shingles and cracks plastic vents; we photograph every hit, seal openings and help you document the damage for the claim.
What if my roof is old and the storm finished it off?
We secure it first and then lay out both options, repair or a new roof, with written prices for each.
Which towns do you cover?
All of Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties, including Cherry Hill, Mount Laurel, Glassboro, Vineland, Hammonton, Egg Harbor and Ocean City.
